How to Quickly Activate a Fire Hydrant in Emergency Situations

To quickly activate a fire hydrant in an emergency, follow the three-step method of "safety confirmation → rapid operation → connection and water discharge". Maintain standardized actions throughout and race against time to secure crucial moments for fire rescue, avoiding improper operations that may hinder fire-fighting efficiency.

I. Safety Preparation Before Activation

1. Ensure there are no flammable or explosive materials on-site, stay away from fire sources and smoke-dense areas to prevent secondary hazards.

2. Confirm personal safety by wearing protective equipment (such as gloves and non-slip shoes) to avoid bumps or scratches during operation.

3. Quickly inspect the fire hydrant's appearance to ensure it is free of damage and water leakage, and that the valve switch operates smoothly, confirming the equipment is usable.

II. Core Operation Steps (30-Second Quick Activation)

1. Quickly open the fire hydrant box door, take out the fire hose and nozzle, and quickly check that the hose is intact and the connections are free of rust.

2. Rotate the fire hydrant's main valve counterclockwise (usually 2-3 turns) until fully open. A slight vibration during pipe water filling is normal.

3. Align the hose connector with the fire hydrant's water outlet and tighten the buckle clockwise to ensure a secure, leak-proof connection.

4. Unfold the fire hose straight to the fire scene, avoiding twists and knots, while ensuring the nozzle operator stands firmly in a safe position.

5. Open the nozzle switch, adjust the spray mode (straight stream/spray) according to the fire situation, and accurately target the base of the fire for extinguishing.

III. Key Notes

1. Avoid opening or closing the valve too quickly to prevent sudden pressure increases that may burst the hose and delay firefighting.

2. Keep the hose away from sharp objects during unfolding to avoid punctures and water leakage, ensuring a continuous and stable water supply.

3. Maintain a safe distance of 3-5 meters from the fire when extinguishing to prevent burns from flame flashback.

4. If the fire hydrant has no water or insufficient pressure, stop operation immediately, contact the fire department promptly, and report the specific situation.

Fire hydrants are the "lifeline" for emergency fire rescue. Proficiency in quick activation methods can provide critical protection for personal and others' lives and property in emergencies. Pay attention to the integrity of fire hydrants in daily life—do not block or damage them, and jointly safeguard public safety.
